Physical Education
Integrating physical activity with cognitive learning strengthens gross motor skills and confidence and has been shown to benefit academic achievement. All Cranium Academy students benefit from various weekly indoor and outdoor play opportunities.
For our CAPS students, our physical education program incorporates more structured active play and sports each week in our gym and outdoor play areas, as well as a large outdoor playing field nearby. Laying a foundation for a healthy lifestyle that they will carry with them throughout their lives, our physical education program is designed to:
Strengthen muscles, bones, and joints
Strengthening these areas is important for children because they are still growing and developing. Their bones are able to grow and adapt to stress, which helps them become stronger and more resilient. Strong muscles help support the bones and joints and can help prevent injury. And strong joints can prevent injuries and help children stay active as they grow older. Regular exercise can help keep joints flexible and strong.
Enhance social and motor skill development
Children learn how to interact with others through teamwork and cooperation and have a chance to develop their gross motor skills by participating in physical activities. Through physical education, children obtain the foundation for lifelong health and well-being and the skills needed to navigate social situations effectively.
Increase learning capacity
Studies have shown that physical education increases the learning capacity of children, which can be beneficial in both academic and social environments. Providing a range of physical activities for students to engage in allows them to develop their motor skills, balance, and coordination. This helps build self-confidence and enhances cognitive abilities.
Improve self-confidence, concentration, and coordination
In addition to improving physical health, physical education also has mental benefits, as it helps students develop skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication, goal-setting, and cooperation. It also allows them to learn about healthy eating habits and exercise, which can help prevent obesity and other chronic conditions.
